We Believe in the Triune God

The Bible clearly teaches that there is a plurality of “Persons” that make up the one Godhead (Genesis 1:1 , 26; 11:7; Matthew 28:19). In many places the Bible calls the Father, God; the Son, God; and the Holy Spirit, God. (Genesis 1:1 , 26; 11:7; Matthew 3:16-17 ; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14). This is not saying there are three gods because Scripture is clear: there is only one God. We have to give equal weight to the texts of Scripture that declare God to be one and also to the texts that reveal the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit to be God as well. Since we believe Scripture cannot contradict itself, to resolve (or explain this mystery clearly spoken of in Scripture) we use the word, “Trinity.” Trinity is simply a word the church uses to speak of how God reveals Himself to us in Scripture. Perhaps we could say, there is “one what” and “three who’s”.

We Also Believe

The heart of the Lutheran Church’s beliefs is the doctrine of justification, the teaching of how we are declared righteous in God’s sight. For years the Lutheran Church has used watchwords to articulate this doctrine: A sinner is justified by grace alone (sola gratia) through faith alone (sola fide) for the sake of Christ alone (solus Christus), a truth revealed to us in Scripture alone (sola Scriptura).

Word Alone

The Bible is God’s inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.

Faith Alone

By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers. God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through Him.

Grace Alone

God loves the people of the world, even though they are sinful, rebel against Him and do not deserve His love. He sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.

Stay Connected. What’s Your Next Step?
